3 Awesome Tips That Will Save You Money on Your Next RV Trip

May 24, 2016

Though we believe that RV trips are completely worth the cost and effort (look how much is spent on hotel rooms every year – $39 billion), there are truly effective ways to save a buck here and there while you are out enjoying your RV. Keeping these tips in mind and utilizing them when possible will help keep your vacation costs in checks.

  1. Prepare and stock your RV before leaving home. Because the bulk of your vacation budget will be allocated towards your gas costs, it’s important that you save as much as you can, whenever you can. Checking your tire pressure and making sure that they are inflated to the proper psi can help improve gas mileage up to three percent. Considering the cost of gas and the extended miles that you will be driving, that three percent could add up to lots of savings.  Stock up on groceries and other essentials before leaving home. Driving your RV to run errands on your trip can waste that gas that you’ve conserved. Buying items from the camp store or convenience store can add up pretty quickly too and eating out will undoubtedly take a large chunk out of your vacation budget. If you know that you will be making side trips while you camp, tow a car to make those quick trips inexpensively and hassle-free.
  2. Take advantage of free overnight parking. All across the nation there exists laws about where you can park your RV. Avoid tickets by finding those businesses who allow free overnight RV parking. Kmart, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Sam’s all allow RVr’s to stay overnight but make sure to check local ordinances with the store manager or others to avoid costly tickets.
  3. Save money on your other gas. Propane can be an expensive part of your trip when using it for every. Utilize the campground grills to cook meals to save your propane.
