Must-Have’s for Fall Camping

October 26, 2015

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of fall camping around here at Frog City. We find that the season is chock full of delights that  aren’t found during the more traditional camping season that is summer. With kids back in school, and families readying themselves for the holidays, our Louisiana RV campground‘s best spots are available to those who wish to  continue their camping and RV trips well into the winter months. There are certain precautions to be taken, and supplies that are imperative to ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay for both you and your group. When camping in the off-season months, even in the South, remember the following:

  • Headlamps and lanterns. The sun sets earlier at this time of year so any late afternoon, outdoor activities will need additional lighting. Be prepared, especially if you are not camping in an RV or trailer and are roughing it in a tent, that you will need the extra lighting.
  • Proper sleep apparel and sleeping bags. Again, if tent camping don’t rely on that sleeping bag that is only rated for higher temperatures. Protect yourself with a sleeping bag that is rated for zero to twenty degrees. Though we average about 40 degrees during our November nights, we do experience much chillier and you’ll be safer if prepared for those nights.
  • Extra layers. Fall temperatures, especially in Cajun country, can range widely throughout the day. Bring extra layers to be prepared for any type of day.
  • A good backpack or duffel bag. With those extra layers, comes the need for storage should you need to remove them.
  • Tick and mosquito repellent. Don’t fall for the myth that ticks don’t exist in the area after a certain time of year. Ticks can survive any temperature above 10 degrees fahrenheit and still present a problem for hikers and campers year-round in the South.
